GROUNDED

Grounded is a contemporary duet rooted in the immigrant experience in the United States. The work follows two individuals building themselves from the ground up while navigating systems that demand resilience yet resist belonging.

Through weighted movement, athletic partnering, and shared balance, the dancers rely on one another to rise, recover, and persist. Moments of support and unity are repeatedly interrupted, reflecting the structural and social forces that limit progress for immigrants and marginalized communities.

The piece ultimately returns to the ground—both a place of origin and a symbol of labor, resistance, and cyclical struggle—asking what it means to keep rising when the systems around you insist on pulling you back down.
